Stories from the ice age

The central-eastern area of the Cantabrian region is especially rich in remains from the Quaternary period due to a geological issue: the great abundance of limestone. It is in this type of rocks where, by water filtration, caves are formed, so abundant in this region. These caves are true “time chambers” in which the skeletal remains of animals have been preserved virtually unaltered for thousands of years, protected from physical, chemical and biological erosion.
